a few dahlia and the only successful hubard squash both plucked from the garden

the air this morning was heavy with the scent of autumn - that faint sweetness of far off grapes, wild and fattening somewhere on a highup vine of curling leaves and fading grasses. it's a season unlike any other a reminder of that epic and mortal battle and ultimately of a gentle surrender .

the color palette is something too slightly faded, ripe with life but in a more reserved way than spring or summer and I'm gathering the bits I love and making little vignettes around the house flowers and fruits alike

the tomatoes are still coming with a force that seems daunting and I'm making up new ways to use them each day - the favorite at the moment as the flavor stays but the texture turns - is tossed and popped over small black lentils or red quinoa or baked into breakfast with eggs and thick slices of sourdough toast. Hopping to get the recipe up on the blog this week
