today seemed as good a day as any to bring the soup pot back to the from of the cupboard. a sure sign that the newest seasonal change is upon us

it's been a steady misty sort of mood these last days - the kind where you fold inward and the tempo of your breath follows the rhythm of the rain on the sills .

.
a pantry full of good staples and plenty of sweet new england corn shaved from the cob. I dug the first parsnips from the garden at the farm this weekend and they along with some of the scallions in the next row came back to the city cottage neatly tucked up in a bundle under my arm, and they both make lovely toppers to this simple meal
and as the evening sets in candles will be lit and linen napkins set out against soup bowls on the table
