@henrilaaksonnen returned a ball as it entered into the light during his @usopen match against @フアン・マルティン・デル・ポトロ at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens earlier this week. “When I was tasked to cover the opening days of the United States Open this year, I found myself looking to the margins of both the action and the light,” writes our staff photographer @damonwinter. He was there photograph tennis — but also ball boys and ball girls, line judges and members of the security staff, all of them working in the midst of a sea of awe-inspired #tennis fans. With his camera, @damonwinter explored the courtside edges, from Arthur Ashe Stadium to the practice courts, hoping to incorporate some of those people into photos. “And I allowed myself the pleasure of finding beauty as the players tried to gain their own edge,” he writes.
