In the Energy Corridor neighborhood of Houston, Austin Francis checked in on an apartment complex he manages and searched for people in need of help. Our photographer @andrewburton11 took this photo on Wednesday while accompanying Austin and 2 other civilian rescuers on a search for survivors. (Swipe left to see photos from a stop they made at the Broadstone Memorial apartments.) Lots of boats sitting outside offered one sign, @andrewburton11 writes, that people might need to be evacuated. The team then spotted a family of 5, including 2 children, that had been stranded in their apartment by rising waters. They took them by boat to one of the impromptu launch points that have popped up along Houston’s streets, staffed by volunteers and emergency responders. As of this morning, more than 13,000 people have been rescued in Houston and the surrounding areas.
