“I’m not really one of those car guys,” said the photographer Todd Midler (@tobe__bryant). The 22-year-old first visited @racewayparknj with a friend. On Wednesday nights, $20 can buy drivers 3 runs on the quarter-mile drag strip. @tobe__bryant got hooked on the spectacle and began going back as often as he could, borrowing his friend’s Subaru Outback but never trying it out on the track. “Maybe it would have been fun if I had a nice car,” he said. Sometimes @tobe__bryant talked to the drivers. “One guy told me the story of how his wife passed away,” the photographer recalled. “He said, ‘This was her car, and I race it for her, so she’s always with me now.’” But often @tobe__bryant just watched, noting the pride that people took in their cars.
