I start each day off with meditation and prayer. It is the single thread that ties every day of my life together. I get on my mat nearly every day, but I believe the body needs at least one full yoga rest day per week. Meditation, however, is everyday for me. I'll steal away for a few quiet moments, lock myself in a bathroom, close my eyes in a parked car or yes, sometimes siton a beautiful beach. As little as five minutes makes a substantive change in the quality of my day. When I found myself in the darkest depths of depression the one thing I couldn't do was meditate. It's like I knew what was waiting for me on the other side of my mind and I wasn't ready to face it. But when I was finally ready, the enlightening thing I discovered is that the light I carry in my heart is stronger and brighter and more powerful than any of the shadows I conjured up. Yes, I needed to work out my stuff. Yes, I needed to make peace with myself. Yes, I needed to atone for some things and forgive myself and my world so I could move on. But the thing that made it possible is that I chose to sit, to listen, to tune in, to still the waters of the mind so I could finally see the truth, plain and simple, shining back at me with its self-evident luminosity. I learned how to cultivate the equanimous mind and in the quiet space of discipline I found a peace that surpasses all understanding. I crave silence. I yearn for tranquility. I am not inspired by dramatic outbursts. I am inspired by people who listen deeply and who ask informed questions, by people whose humility is so real they don't even realize that they're humble. I love intelligence of the mind, wisdom of the spirit and boundless love of the heart. I believe that every single person on this Earth desires peace and a way out of their suffering, and I believe that somewhere inside we each know the way because that path is really the way we finally come home. ? . #practiceyogachangeyourworld #onebreathatatime ? .
