The photographer @tesslomayer grew up among farmers’ children in Delaware County, New York. “I had chickens but nothing beyond that,” the 21-year-old told @ニューヨーク・タイムズ. She graduated high school early and, eager for cosmopolitan life, moved to New York City for school. But when @tesslomayer went home to her small town of Bovina on breaks, she became interested in “how farming shapes people.” So she started taking photos of her friends and neighbors, as well as newcomers to the area, who were changing the face of the farming community. Among the transplants were Steve Burnett and his wife, Kristie. Steve, an Iowan, walked away from a marketing career in NYC to start an organic farm in 2012. @tesslomayer took this photo of Kristie in a greenhouse at Burnett Farms in Bovina in 2015 for her senior thesis on new farms and farm families.
