At 76, Lucinda Childs has found herself in a position she didn’t imagine she’d be in again: running a dance company. She remains the image of elegant serenity — it’s hard to imagine that her dignified posture will ever abandon her — but her voice was full of emotion during an interview with @ニューヨーク・タイムズ in which she said, “It has been an amazing period for me.” After she disbanded her company in 2000, Lucinda, who was part of the experimental 1960s collective Judson Dance Theater, focused on European commissions. She’s a rare choreographer whose artistic bridges extend both from Europe to the United States, and from modern dance to ballet. Beginning next Tuesday, she presents her company in 2 programs for a 2-week season at @thejoycetheater, “Lucinda Childs: A Portrait (1963–2016).” @sbrackbill photographed #LucindaChilds in the @MarthaGrahamDance studios during rehearsals for her upcoming season at @thejoycetheater.
