What don't you see when you talk to a call center worker? The face on the other end of the line. The photographer @josesmatos worked at a call center in London for a while because it gave him flexibility to take on photo assignments. But his time there piqued his interest. When @josesmatos set out to photograph call centers in India and the Philippines, he had to reassure nervous executives that he wasn’t out to make them look bad. If anything, he wanted to make photos of faceless sales and support people who field calls from all over the world. “These people deserve to have some kind of face, a real face,” the photographer said. “I just tried to capture their lives, because nobody knows them.” In Manila, he took this photo of Christine, 34, drying her hair before going out with friends on a Saturday night. Christine told @josesmatos she has been working in call centers for the past 11 years. Compared to India, the Philippines has a flourishing industry and higher wages, the photographer explains.
