It seems Everest news has dominated our tiny climbing world for the last decade, growing in mainstream popularity with each tragic event that unfolds on its flanks. Now with the @EverestMovie release, the public will gain an even more fascinating view into one of the greatest human adventure stories of our modern time. I climbed Everest in 2012. It was my first 8000 meter peak and since then I've learned a lot about myself as an athlete as well as my motivations behind my own mountain pursuits. Everest is a polarizing place, one I will readily admit I feel a certain level of disconcertion and ambivalence toward. My time there taught me so much, and was a very pivotal life experience for me, and yet it has been the scene of so much chaos and tragedy for from some of those I've known and grown close to. As I lay here in my tent at 22,500ft on Makalu, I gaze everyday at the Kangshung Face of Everest, a side I never had the pleasure to see during my time there. I see its beauty and peacefulness from a distance. I am grateful for it, but also aware that it has both given and taken away so much from our beloved mountain community.
