This morning we had our 'Puja', a Buddhist blessing ceremony where offerings are given to the mountain gods for good luck and safe climbing. It is a very important religious ceremony for our Sherpa, and only after it is done will they step foot on the mountain. One of our Sherpa teammates, Mingma Tsering, is also a lama and thus was able to lead the ceremony. He chanted prayers while the others burned juniper, threw rice, and made offerings in the form of biscuits, candy, fried dough, coke, redbull, and even beer ?. We then put up Tibetan prayer flags around our camp, and each time they flap in the wind they are meant to send more blessings. It was a great team bonding experience and we are all super excited to get up high in the next few days!
