There are certain yoga poses that bring you to your edge and test your physical and emotional limits. When you're backed up against an inner wall it's like a spiritual crossroads. Kapotasana is that poses for many. I've seen this great gateway pose of the Ashtanga Yoga Second Series bring up fear, anxiety, anger, old memories, sheer panic, tears, suffocation, physical pain, shaking, hyperventilation and much more! You have a choice to make about how you will respond to the situation when you meet your biggest challenge in an asana, and ultimately in your life. I have often found myself at that edge where the practice was so hard that I just wanted to curse, literally like drop the f-bomb just to express how hard it felt to carry on. Whatever pose brings that up for you, when you face it everything inside of you may want to curse, you may be in physical pain or discomfort, you may be feeling strong emotions that make you hate the pose, hate your body or just generally feel angst. You can give in to that and no one would blame you. Or, you can slowly, quietly and with the steady strength of true self knowledge, choose the other path, the path of peace and awakening. You can choose the yogi's path by cultivating equanimity and staying with your breath, by watching the emotional storms without identifying with them, and by opening your heart to a transcendent experience of grace. In the darkest moments you learn to seek deliverance from suffering through faith and you cultivate a new response to difficult situations. Plant that seed deeply within and you will be granted a calm, wise mind through the spiritual heart. #practiceyogachangeyourworld #onebreathatatime Photo by @yogiyannii Outfit by @aloyoga
