A: We do some cross-platform posting via Facebook and Twitter, run social contents, and include links to our account on our website and in email campaigns. We ran an Instagram photo contest during our big climbing event, RocTrip. The event was a caravan through Eastern Europe and the Petzl crew and hundred of climbers stopped at various areas along the way. We gave away prizes for the best climbing and lifestyle photos from event attendees at each of 10 stops, and posted the winning images on Facebook. We’ve done a few contests like this, and have a variety of others planned for the future. ________________________________________Q: How do you measure your brand influence on Instagram? A: At the moment it’s pretty straightforward: how many followers do we have, how many likes and comments do our images garner on average, what’s our likes-to-followers ratio, etc. We also pay attention to less tangible indicators like tone in comments. Even though it’s harder to pin a specific value on it, nothing makes us happier than when a follower tags a friend and says, “dude, you have to check out this feed!” or maybe just, “OMG.” Iconosquare and the native app are the main tools we use to track these KPIs. ________________________________________Q: When posting a media, what is your Like/Comment threshold that makes it acceptable? A: It really varies. Our professional work-at-height imagery tends to have a slightly lower engagement on average than our sport / recreational imagery, mostly due to Instagram’s demographic make-up. With those images, we tend to get 3,000-4,500 likes and one to two dozen comments. For climbing, or nature imagery, we like to get a minimum of 4,500 likes and two dozen comments, with numbers heading routinely into the 6,000-like and 50+ comment range.
