The artist was particularly struck by the lack of appreciation from the public, who would often walk away unimpressed, deepening his fear that this might be the destiny of every artist’s life. In 1962, Chagall began working on a series of lithographs now known as ‘Le Cirque’, and the color lithographs were published by Tériade Éditions in 1967.
