In September 2021, the legendary “à la française” hat of Emperor Napoleon I, worn during his campaign in Pologne (1807), sold at #SothebysParis for €1.2 million ($1.3 million USD), more than double the low estimate. Napoleon only began wearing his now famous hat in 1800. From then on, his hats were always the same model—most manufactured by Poupart & Cie for about 60 francs. The emperor had 12 hats in rotation at any given time and, as he disliked brand-new hats, his valet wore them first to break them in.
