We’re in Beaune this weekend for the 163rd edition of the annual Hospices de Beaune wine sale, the world’s oldest and most renowned wine charity auction. Sotheby’s specialist @celianraveldestienne joins us from the Hôtel-Dieu, the hospital that was founded in 1443.

For the Presidents’ Barrel—the star lot of the auction—the Hospices de Beaune has selected Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, Cuvée Madeleine Collignon, produced from the Grand Cru parcel which was donated to the Hospices in 1976 by Jean Collignon and named in memory of his mother.

In keeping with its founding values, all proceeds from the sale continue to support the upkeep of the Hospices de Civil de Beaune’s hospitals: the construction of a new hospital building to replace the first building of the modern era, the rebuilding of the hospital in Seurre, the renewal of hospital equipment with cutting edge technology, and a modernization of the winery.
