Towering over seven feet in both height and length, it wasn’t just the sheer scale of Frank Stella’s 1962 ‘Honduras Lottery Co.’ that stunned in the #SothebysNewYork saleroom tonight. The masterwork sold for $18.7 million in the Contemporary Evening Auction, marking the second highest price achieved for a work by the artist and pushing the auction total past $250 million.

Following its acquisition in 2001 by California collector Chara Schreyer, the painting was notably featured as the prominent cover work for the now iconic book Art House, which covers Schreyer’s singular collection and extraordinary residences.
