ジョン・スタンメイヤーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ジョン・スタンメイヤーInstagram)「Not so visually interesting, this is about remembering… Much of my time photographing a story about piracy in the Malacca Straits was spent living aboard and traveling on simple wooden boats. At the time, I heard the Lalan River in South Sumatra was a known area for pirates to seek refuge after heists in the Banka Straits. Not expecting any ship raids, I was interested in learning who lives in this beautiful river area of Indonesia. That is when I met Wahila and her three children, Rika, Rison, and Yanti. Wahila is part of the indigenous Mangsang people (I don’t believe a direct connection to the town of Mangsang). For centuries Wahila and her ancestors have inhabited these narrow waters, their homes made of wood, floating on the many river ways, and changing locations while living off the sea. After spending much of the afternoon together with her husband, they felt the night was not wise to travel further upstream. In all their kindness and warm welcoming, they insisted we stay the night. Keeping our rickety boat moored next to their home, remembering that evening how peaceful sleeping on the boat's bow under the stars, and it was cold for being so close to the equator. Awaking early the following day, layers of fog moved along the Lalan river as Wahila hung laundry. Having breakfast with the family, saying our goodbyes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ from the @natgeo story #InDireStraits #fromthearchives #indonesia #sumatra #LalanRiver #BankaStraits #water #river #fog #laundry #remembering」2月22日 11時12分 - johnstanmeyer
