During last Tuesday’s, Ask Me Anything, there was a question about the previous photography I use to do in Europe that connects to an excitement with mirrors. We all have this wonder. Not only to see ourselves. So we can enter the world in front of us, and behind, simultaneously. When I was in Batam, one of many islands part of the Riau Islands in Indonesia near Singapore, I worked on a story about pirates in the Malacca Straits. That evening in a pool hall filled only with men. Me with limited billiard skills, I gave most of that night lost again, by mirrors—that time not in a world of my mind. In reality, behind and before me.
