The reason we do research is to question our assumptions, the things we think we know to be true. It’s the unquestioned assumptions behind what we do that cause harm.

I used to believe that working out all the time and eating a low-calorie diet was the only way to lose weight, which led me to waste 18 months of working out (six days a week) on a low-calorie, low-fat diet. I was still 296 pounds at the end of that awful experience in overtraining and undernourishment.

Other assumptions that need RE-searching:
-Calories in and calories out is the only thing that matters to lose weight
-When you eat doesn’t matter
-There must be just one cause of your cravings (or symptoms)
-Masks are more important than vitamin D3

The list goes on. The cure for assumptions is data. Always look at the data. If what you’re doing isn’t working, you can measure that.

Maybe you’re doing it wrong. Check that. But if you’re doing it right, and it’s not working, it’s time to question your assumptions and change your behavior.

In everything - your relationships, your career, your food, your sleep, your exercise.

RE-search lets you focus your precious energy on doing stuff that works instead of wasting it on stuff that’s supposed to work, based on flawed assumptions. (@drstevengundry said this on Bulletproof Radio and I loved it!)

Happy biohacking!
