DAILY BOWIE THING – Day 81

“You’re acting funny, trying to spend my money…”

Those of you who subscribe to the monthly Bowie newsletter may have noted a promise of a return of #DailyBowieThing on 1st February.

Well, due to a catastrophic, calendarial calamity* that wasn't possible. However, here we are again after a seven day pause with a look at more Bowie sheet music.

We launched #DailyBowieThing on 1st of November last year, kicking off with the sheet music for Wild Is The Wind. That same week, the 1972 sheet music for John I’m Only Dancing sold on a popular online auction site for £22.79. Last week the same sheet music sold on the same site for £94.72.

Four pieces of UK Bowie sheet music sold on the day, for the following sums...

John I’m Only Dancing (1972) - £94.72
Life On Mars? (1973) - £63.66
Space Oddity (1975) - £61.66
Young Americans (1975) - £33.77

No logic to the prices, Young Americans is possibly the scarcest of all of them but didn’t attract such frenzied bidding as the others. Of course, we’re not claiming that #DailyBowieThing has had an influence on the collectors’ market, but it is great to see there’s a growing interest in all aspects of Bowie collecting, alongside the music itself.

As you can see, today’s example is Sorrow from 1973. The track was released as a single ahead of the album of covers by Bowie from whence it came, Pin Ups.

Pictured here are a US copy (top left), an Australian issue and three UK versions along the bottom. It seems there were other colour variations of the UK one, with the price printed on the front changing from 20p to 25p.

We know this isn't all the issues of Sorrow, any of you have others?

*Thought it was still January.
