To coincide with David’s 8-date mini tour of Japan (his first in Japan), RCA issued two promotional albums in the shape of the compilation ROCK 'N' ROLL NOW and Aladdin Sane. They are pictured on slide #2 along with a flier for the Tokyo shows and a press advert. Brian Ward’s 1972 Ziggy 'Droog' picture was prominent on the albums and in the associated advertising, along with his Ziggy 'hi-kick' photograph which had graced the front of RCA’s 1972 re-issue of The Man Who Sold The World. Japanese journalists were given a beautiful press kit housed in the paper envelope pictured on slide #3. The kit contained folded versions of the two colour posters (behind David in slide #4), featuring shots taken by Masayoshi Sukita. The two black & white 10x8 promo photos on slide #5 utilising the same shots were also in the press kit. The live shot from the tour on slide #6 features in Bowie and Sukita’s incredible Speed Of Life book, issued by Genesis Publications in 2012, as does the photo taken in February 1973, at RCA Studios in New York, on slide #7. One of the colour posters also featured a shot from this session. Slide #8 is the cover of an A4, 28-page, promo booklet included in the press kit. We’re not sure if this was available commercially on the tour too, though there was also a lavish official Japanese colour tour programme. Anybody out there know? The single-sided leaflet on slide #9 was contained in the kit as were several pages of tour itineraries and other information. As you've no doubt guessed, this press kit is very rare and just never shows up these days, though the booklet on slide #8 does turn up every now and again. #DailyBowieThing #BowiePressKit #BowiePromoPhotos #BowieJapan」1月25日 10時04分 - davidbowie

DAILY BOWIE THING – Day 79

“Sake and strange divine…”

On Thursday 5th April 1973, David Bowie and travelling companion, Geoff MacCormack, docked at Yokohama in Japan aboard the SS Oronsay. Slide #1 in our slideshow was taken during a press conference at Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, the following day, as were slides #4 & #10, © Koh Hasebe / Shinko Music Archive.
