Today’s #DailyBowieThing is yet another item that would fit into the same category. The image here is of one of the rarer formats of the original Aladdin Sane album, the American 7 ½ ips, ¼", 4-track stereo, reel-to-reel tape. They were housed in 7" boxes with the album artwork on the front and the track-listing, sleeve notes and other information on the reverse. We’ve no idea how much they retailed for back in the early 70s, but they must have been the most expensive format and can’t have had a huge market. These Bowie tapes were produced by MAGTEC of North Hollywood for RCA, who released the first six Bowie albums on RCA as reel-to-reels, all highly collectable now.
