Disordered Eating.

It plagues the climbing community more than you may realize, and it’s danced with this community for a very, very long time.

I know because I’ve lived through it. I’ve wrestled with disordered eating, particularly as a young competitor while my fellow competitors struggled as well as those who were older who I admired. These courageous humans, @エミリー・ハリントン and @アンジー・ペイン are two of them.

When @carolinelovesphotos told me of her plan to create a documentary about the disordered eating within our community I let out a sigh of relief. For so long it was something nobody talked about. Recently though, people have been coming forward - @ベス・ロッデン @kailightner @katiebrownclimbs @andrea_ck to just name a few. It’s been refreshing because as a coach, I’ve worked with numerous youth athletes who struggle with ED because they believe being lighter will make them better. How would they know better when it’s what they’ve seen the pro’s do? What I would say often didn’t matter. And while being light is championed for a short period of time, the lasting negative physical and psychological effects can last decades.

I’m thankful for the vulnerability of emily, angie, kai and andrea as well as those talking about it outside of this documentary. It’s the only way to create a better path for the younger generations and it’s the only way to make sure adults know they aren’t alone in their struggle.

As part of She Sends Collective @shesends_collective mission to honor Savannah Buik, @savvytothemax a platform for you to donate if you so wish is being set up. All donations will be allocated to climbers in our community who are struggling financially with their ED recovery. Stay tuned for more details regarding this.
