スカイラー・カーギルさんのインスタグラム写真 - (スカイラー・カーギルInstagram)「just hanging out in germany after hiking 2.5 miles up a very steep mountain 😂 . . . alright, i just want to interrupt my regularly scheduled programming for some thoughts i’ve had recently on being a “social media influencer.” truth is, i’m grateful for the opportunities i’ve had and how long i spent to build my youtube channel authentically and then onto instagram in 2013. i love taking pictures, i love sharing stories, and i love the community on here. however - i am not an influencer anymore because i do not want to be. being an influencer is hella hard. editing photos, having the right “aesthetic,” making sure i “engage” and “ask questions to get comments.” i see others following the same guidelines i learned about years ago - ways to grow ones following and get those numbers up. and honestly.. i’m just not into it anymore. if i have a relationship and it ends, i have to relive it through DMs and prying questions. if i have a new job, i feel the need to announce it. if i am moving, i feel a need to explain it. and it’s not even.. feeling a “need.” it’s actually expected of me. and at this point in my life, i’m living without expectations. . . i’m a busy guy. i don’t want to have to log into instagram and obsess over what content “makes sense.” my life doesn’t make sense and that’s the fucking beauty of it!! i felt pressured by friends, peers, mentors etc to continue to use my following to my “advantage.” but what advantage is that if i’m unhappy doing it? i dunno folks. it’s exhausting to have to parse out every word, it feels inauthentic and i’m a whole authentic human being. my life is 1% online and 99% what i’m living, what i’m enjoying, what i’m loving. . .
