Armadillo or lizard? It’s the armadillo lizard (Ouroborus cataphractus)! Native to South Africa, this reptile inhabits semi-desert habitats. Like an armadillo, it curls up into a ball when under threat, holding its tail with its mouth. In extreme circumstances, it will shed its tail to escape—but only when left without another option, since it loses the ability to curl up into its defensive position while waiting for its tail to grow back.
