Why the red face? Following a victory over a competitor, a male changeable lizard (Calotes versicolor) will change his color to red to mark his achievement. Throughout mating season, males will generally turn their heads and throats from an olive shade to a mix of orange and red, inflating their throats to draw special attention to their vibrant colors in hopes of attracting a mate. This lizard can be spotted in forests in several countries including Myanmar, Iran, India, Thailand, and Vietnam.
