Stretching out your legs and soaking up the sunshine like the Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) this spring? This bird is named for its association with grazing animals, since it tracks large mammals to find its own prey, like insects or frogs, which are disturbed by the foraging. Depending on its locale, the Cattle Egret hangs out around other grazers such as rhinos, hippos, tortoises, or elephants—and is sometimes better known as an “elephant bird” or “rhinoceros egret.“
