Iranian-born #photographer Firooz #Zahedi was an art student in his twenties when he met Elizabeth Taylor through his cousin Ardeshir Zahedi, #Iran’s ambassador to the United States in the mid-1970s. In 1976, Taylor took her first and only trip to Iran, for the inaugural flight on the airline Iran Air. Together, Zahedi and Taylor saw the country though fresh eyes, acting like “a couple of tourists. There was no pressure, just lots of fun. No one recognized her.” This #portrait was taken after the duo purchased bolts of beautifully coloured #fabric and scarves at the #bazaar, covering the wood-panelled walls of the Tehran Hilton hotel room.
On view in our #London galleries from 26 April, ahead of our 20th Century Art / Middle East auction.
