Meet the Pompadour Cotinga (Xipholena punicea)! Males look like they may have spilled red wine all over themselves, but the burgundy color of their plumage comes from carotenoid pigments in their feathers. Females, on the other hand, have gray plumage. The bird is native to the humid forests of South America, frequenting areas such as the Guianas, Venezuela, Peru, and Colombia. This species is mostly frugivorous, but also eat insects from time to time.
