Growing #cranberries involves techniques that aren’t common on other American farms. The process includes flooding and freezing fields, placing sand on ice to stimulate vine growth and using honeybees to pollinate flowers. In Cranmoor, Wisconsin, John Moss works with his dad and others to manage 150 acres of #cranberry vines. Their yield varies, but on average, they produce 5 million pounds of #berries a year, all of which go to @oceansprayinc. After college, John left and started his own software company, but later returned to the farm with his wife and kids. Now, he hopes to apply his computer science skills to streamline the business. “I’m writing a record-keeping program that tracks equipment maintenance,” John said. “I hope to sell it to other growers.” @narayanmahon took this photo of John holding berries.
