Each of them has created something singular, be it a performance or an aesthetic, and they have all, in some way, helped steer the cultural discourse. All of our Greats have inspired acolytes, imitators, fervent supporters and all have made us reimagine or redefine a term or convention that we’d long ago gone blind to. This is what great art does. But in 2018, what makes a Great is not merely the ability to present us with different ways of being, but the ability to inspire us to create a different world of our own.
