long story short: mental illness almost killed me. ⠀ but I was one of the lucky ones - the lucky one that got admitted to a hospital before it was too late, recovering among medical professionals who fed and cared for my body when I didn’t know how. I’m lucky to have a family who saw my symptoms, relapse after relapse, and nurtured me with compassion and care. ⠀ and if this was not the case, I certainly wouldn’t be here today. ⠀ but medical care isn’t all we need. We need to break the stigma and overcome the dangerous fallacy that mental health isn’t as important as physical health. ⠀ because stigma perpetuates sickness, shame spurs secrecy, and silence kills. ⠀ so in honour of #WorldMentalHealthDay, let’s break the stigma by speaking up.? let’s replace shame with empathy, and commend those who speak with a vulnerable heart ⠀ because to anyone out there dealing with mental illness, you are brave and loved and valid. your feelings are real. and you can get through this??? ⠀ and remember - compassion is not finite. it is abundant and deserved by all of you, no matter the depth of your cuts or the amount of diagnoses you were given. know that there is no ranking - just love. a whole buttload of it? ⠀ you all inspire me so so much!
