This unique and colorful bird is a tufted guineafowl, photographed at the Botanical and Zoological Garden of Tsimbazaza, Madagascar. These amazing creatures help prevent the spread of lyme disease by eating ticks! They eat other arthropods too, as well as seeds, fruits,grains, worms, small snakes and small mammals. When disturbed, they run rather than fly and make a loud, harsh call. Males of this species frequently show aggression toward each other; often fighting, and will raise their wings upward and rush toward the other in an attempt to look fearsome. They have a native range covering most of Africa, mainly south of the Sahara.
