Saddened that Mr Jek Yeun Thong, a member of the @papsingapore Old Guard, has passed away. Mr Jek was one of the ten ministers who signed the Separation Agreement in 1965, and played an important role in Singapore’s history.

Mr Jek worked closely with Mr Lee Kuan Yew. He drafted Mr Lee’s first Mandarin election speech, and was Mr Lee’s Political Secretary from 1959 to 1963. After entering Parliament, he served in multiple roles in the Cabinet and in public service until he retired from politics in 1988.
Mr Jek made significant contributions to building modern Singapore. His passing is a deep loss to the nation. To honour his memory and as a mark of respect, all state flags are being flown at half mast today.
