Am back home from London!
In the leaders’ retreat at @commonwealth2018 (CHOGM) yesterday, I spoke about security, specifically terrorism and cyber attacks.
Like Singapore, many Commonwealth countries are multi-racial and multi-religious. While ISIS has been defeated militarily, the threat is far from dead. Our societies remain susceptible to social discord and distrust propagated by religious extremists and hate groups. Singapore has worked hard to cultivate inter-communal ties between Muslims and non-Muslims. I encouraged other Commonwealth countries to maintain close links with their Muslim communities, and work together to overcome extremism and hateful ideology.

There is also a growing danger of cyber attacks as countries push towards digitalisation. Singapore signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on Cybersecurity Capacity Building with the UK on this trip. We will work together to run cybersecurity capacity building programmes for Commonwealth members.
CHOGM is a great opportunity to renew relationships with other countries and strengthen our position in the world. I hope to continue working closely with Commonwealth members, so as to create a more secure future for all of us. – LHL
