#SpeakingInDance | “I call her my bossy friend,” @carlakorbes said of the dancer @janieclaire, her partner in @benjaminmillepied’s new duet, “In Silence We Speak.” It’s meant affectionately. (Janie moves briskly; Carla more fluidly.) There are enigmatic, slowly unfolding sculptural scenes in “Silence,” but Benjamin also choreographed a fast, springing section with quick footwork that relies on precision and attack. “We don’t want it to look messy,” Carla said. “I love that we’re really trying to be together.” The pair, who met at @sab_nyc in 1996 and then danced together at @nycballet, say they’ve always felt like sisters. They reunite at @thejoycetheater over the next 2 weeks, where they’ll perform the duet with @ladanceproject. Janie, who retired from City Ballet in 2014, didn’t expect to dance again, but is now a full-time member of the group. “The company to me is cool,” she told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk with a laugh. “They do cool stuff and they’re always in cool places.
