I don't know anymore. I don't have answers for the questions of my heart, or rather, the answers I do have are heartbreaking.

Just be there with him a little and hold his hand. That's enough.
He looks so much smaller. He said it was because of all the walking which you know isn't true.
He noticed your dress like he always notices everything about you.
His voice is so quiet now. Oh his voice. I already miss talking to him and that way he has of smiling and giggling and telling a story from his past with such a good heart and a slow mid-western pace. I wanted to have him record all the stories he used to tell about growing up in post World War II America, like the blind elderly former slave he used to walk five miles along the train tracks to read the Bible to as a teenager, like how when a young kid asked him how to get a big fancy car like he had (it was a Jaguar) and he said, well son, all you have to do is think about the things you want and then you'll naturally gravitate towards them.
He's probably the reason that I love flowers so much. He raised prize-winning orchids and said that orchids need to see the shadow of their owner if they're going to bloom.
The love is never lost and I know I'll keep loving him forever.

Sometimes things make sense but accepting the truth of it is just too hard. So you make a story about what things are or push reality away for a little bit. But sooner or later you have to face it. Truth is quite often simple. Not always kind, but usually simple. And sometimes nothing makes sense and that feels more right somehow. Even though I have no place to put all this sadness right now, it's not forever, love is forever.
