slowly putting the city cottage kitchen together and stocking shelves and pantry cupboards with only the things I love - it has been amazing to start with essentially a blank slate, and frustrating and difficult too, I'm sure anyone who has taken on an old house project can attest - the walls are uneven and textured, they will never be smooth and I'm perfectly happy with this - its character and charming in my eyes -the ceilings are low by modern estimates, the are cracks and crooks all over the place but they are the story of this place - which began its life over a hundred years and I'm honored to be a part of its history as much as it will be part of mine-
And now that there is a finish line insight (at least in the kitchen that is) and all the holes and cracks and supports and structures have been shored up and we can step back and know that hopefully we have breathed a bit of new life and given it a chance at another hundred years - I'm ever so carefully and with a ruthless editorial eye bringing in some of the things I love, to make the space feel like a home - some pieces I've made myself pulling visions of objects from my head and bringing them into fruition, some are tried and true, everyday kitchen staples, pantry basics and other collected from my family and years in other places - and some just seem to suit this little cottage so perfectly and help it & us tell our story together (tap for sources)
