i suddenly found myself unprepared on my morning walk as the early morning sky clouded over and a oppressive mist seemed to fall every which way - dripping from my eye lashes even - with no umbrella I pulled the collar of my jacket up tight and fished in my pockets for gloves -
Nearly soaked through upon my return I kicked my puddly shoes off at the door and immediately went to the stove to turn on the kettle - there in the kitchen window was the overflowing vase of white fragrant lilac I picked yesterday in the crisp spring sunshine and I had to laugh thinking of how changeable this New England spring can be - one minute it's bright and sunny and the next the rain is pouring down and I'm contemplating building a fire - or perhaps it's the thing that makes me love this home of mine so very much - it's never gets old and it's surely never boring - each of the seasons brings something different and how fickle the memory as the familiar is nearly forgotten from one year to the next - but the heart remembers and that smell of lilac floating on spring breezes and filling the house makes a soaking wet morning seem very much alright -
