For the extraordinary #artist Martin Kippenberger (1953-1997), enfant terrible of the 1980s art world, no subject remained sacred. In this impressive large scale #painting, Die Mutter von Joseph Beuys, Kippenberger takes aim at the legendary #German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys. The portrait is based upon a #photograph of Beuys as a child, walking with his mother. Kippenberger presents his own distinctive visage in place of that of Beuys’ mother, satirising the revered legacy of the older artist, and placing himself at the heart of art historical debate.
