Timber! In January 1955, @ニューヨーク・タイムズ staff photographer Patrick A. Burns captured this photo of workers taking down the @rockcenternyc Christmas tree, which had been trucked into New York City from the estate of Elmer Rowe in Belvidere, New Jersey. In December 1954, through to New Year's Day, crowds had stared in wonder at the 65-foot Norway spruce, which had been festooned with 2,000 electric bulbs and a 4-foot plastic star. In nearby Times Square, another popular attraction had delighted spectators that holiday season. The illuminated ball atop Times Tower slid down its 68-foot pole, informing the 500,000 celebrants packed into the glittery expanse between 43rd and 47th Streets that 1954 had made it to the history books. When the festivities subsided, the globe stayed put in Midtown Manhattan. The #RockfellerCenter tree was consigned to a woodpile. #?
