Nathan Lane knows how to make an entrance, and this is not just a cliché but an understatement. Over the years, he’s burst forth in pinstriped suit, in Roman tunic and in Barbara Bush jumbo faux pearls and softly curled wig. Mr. Broadway’s latest form of entrance, though, is much more subtle. Starring as a cynical editor in a revival of the 1928 newspaper comedy “The Front Page,” the 60-year-old actor arrives on stage as a disembodied voice coming out of an old-timey telephone. In fact, he doesn’t even appear in the flesh until the bottom of the second act in the nearly 3-hour production — a fact that frankly delights him. The photographer @ryanpfluger took this portrait of #NathanLane at the Broadhurst Theater, where “The Front Page” is set to open on October 20. Visit the link in our profile to read more about how the newly-married actor, long renowned for making them laugh, is throwing himself into darker roles.
