Some cities have a single architectural identity, but that’s not the case in L.A. It was an incubator for the American Craftsman style, and in turn, it embraced Beaux-Arts, Spanish Colonial Revival and Mayan Revival. Then #ArtDeco came around. Most of LA’s Art Deco buildings are smaller than the modern skyscrapers rising around them, but they still soar. A @nytimestravel writer recently went in search of these architectural treasures. One stop: Union Station, photographed here by @trevortondro. The building was designed to serve as a combined rail terminus for the Santa Fe, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific railways. And after some years of neglect — thanks to commercial air travel and California’s love affair with the car — the station was restored in 1992. Today, travelers in search of the romanticism of rail travel will find it in Union Station. Visit the link in our profile to read more. #?
