In 1967, Lauren Bacall stood outside the Royale Theater, where she was starring in the hit comedy, “Cactus Flower.” The actress, who became a movie star in the 1940s and went on to act in more than 40 films, was known for speaking with a mixture of cynicism and sensitivity. When her 2-year stint in the Broadway show ended, her reflections featured the trademark Bacall blend. A headline in the November 18, 1967 edition of @ニューヨーク・タイムズ declared: “‘Cactus Flower’ Star Aims Some Parting Shots.” “I’ll never stay more than a year in a show again,” Lauren said. “Never, never, never again. And never is a long, long time.” Her experiences weren’t all bad, though. She told @ニューヨーク・タイムズ that she felt like she “earned a place in the theater” and “learned a lot, too.” Lauren expanded: “I was a novice when I signed to do this show for 2 years without a vacation clause. But I’m not a novice any longer. Pity the next producer I work for.” The @ニューヨーク・タイムズ photographer Allyn Baum took this photo of #LaurenBacall in 1967. The actress, who died in 2014 at 89, was born 92 years ago tomorrow. #tbt
