To the list of famous things that have been discontinued only to be resurrected later — @Marvel Entertainment Comics, @themuppets and Twinkies, to name a few — add bar cars on the @mtametronorth. Of the 60 new coaches coming to the New Haven line, 10 will be cafe cars. Of course, drinks ordered by commuters in Don Draper’s days were stronger than coffee. The news release acknowledged that fact without actually saying so, noting that the cafe cars were “popularly known as bar cars.” In 1968, the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ photographer Barton Silverman photographed one such bar car, at a time when it was experiencing some overcrowding. One woman complained to @ニューヨーク・タイムズ: “When all the seats are taken, sometimes they go into the ladies room and ride sitting up on the sink and they give you a dirty look if you want to use the toilet.” (We imagine she was talking about the Don Drapers of the day.) #? #?
