Today I wear a coat that can be worn over matching pajamas. Other days I wear it with my jeans. How clever of you @daily_sleeper to give me the choice. I’ve been very drawn to the color blue. Most days I wear some variation of it, usually denim. Today it’s a baby blue putting me in mind of the eyes of my mother, my grandson and my own. Blue is me being calm. Blue is me being wise, stable and serene. Blue is me being inspired. The blues I wear are usually oversized and flowing. I want nothing to constrain me at the moment. I want to be free to become what I will when I inhabit my shed. My shed reminds me of my old Squarespace website. The one I designed and built myself as a container for what became Accidental Icon. A place to research, write and study fashion. My shed is a place where I still research, write and study fashion. I take my own photos now. Gone are city streets and in its place are scenes of nature and home. The flowers sprinkled across my coat are the same color as the peonies that are coming into full bloom right now. When I sit in my shed their perfume sneaks in the window and entices me into re-imaginings. Of what the next decade may become. If it’s even a fraction of the adventure my last one was, I will be pleasantly surprised as I was then. Here I am in the light, my coat on, ready to go. Where I don’t know and that is the fun and delight of it. My blue coat, like my life now, wraps me in softness, and soothes me. I feel a creative impulse happening. More like a slow simmer rathe than a rapid boil. A pot full of different ingredients that will add to each other in ways that make them better than they were alone.
