This Darwin’s frog may look like Pinocchio, but unlike our wooden friend, her nose is not a lie detector. Instead, this amphibian’s head coming to a point serves as camouflage, allowing the frog to take on the appearance of a dead leaf. This is an important form of protection against predators, especially for females that will spend time on the forest floor searching for a place to lay their eggs among decomposing vegetation.
