You don’t need sound to know what this prairie vole is saying. While they can make noise, this species uses postures to communicate their feelings toward enemies and competitors. A vole like this one, with raised forefeet and its head extended forward, is communicating that a threat is near. Other postures are also exhibited by this species, which include a boxing stance, a lunge, chase, and retreat.
