Last night, around 9pm, we actually thought it *might* be happening... So as we put all the bags and car seat at the door we decided to do what any responsible parents-to-be would do... And went to bed hoping we'd get some sleep. 💤🤭 Turns out he's not quite ready to make his big arrival just yet. But, it did make me think today about if I'm ready and what else I need to do. I get asked about books and birth plans a lot so thought I'd touch on it here. I bought or was given loads of books, and always thought I'd feel more inclined to read them nearer the time, but at 39 weeks I still haven't read any (I did start the Science of Parenting which is pretty good). I feel like it's similar to going travelling or running a marathon... I don't need to read about someone else's experience to feel prepared for my own journey - it's going to be unique to me anyway. That said, Tommy has read a few and I know they empowered him. What I have done to feel prepared and empowered is the following: 🤰🏼Did a day's antenatal class with @thehappybirthclub. 🤰🏼Did a hypnobirthing class with @themindfulbirthgroup. I loved this so much, it's very in line with my coaching and was very much about giving us the tools and knowledge to make empowered choices (and helped me to make my non birth-plan plan). 🤰🏼Booked a lactation consultant so I'm prepared to breast feed. So with my 'birth plan', I really don't have one as I'm prepared that anything can happen. But I'm educated around the different options, and I've made decisions around the Vitamin K injection and my placenta (I'm using @placentaplus). So I suppose what I'm saying is, do what empowers you. There's no right or wrong way to do any of it. Avoid the things that add fear, and do more of the things that empower you. Just know that things don't always go to 'plan'. I'm so ready. 👦🏻」12月28日 1時22分 - ashleylouisejames

My (lack of) birth plan. 🤰🏼

I've been hearing about birth plans from the moment I found out I was pregnant, and I always wondered if nearer the time I'd suddenly realise that I needed or wanted one. But to be honest, it still kinda blows my mind that you could plan something that you've either never done before, or could go 'wrong'.

Last night, around 9pm, we actually thought it *might* be happening... So as we put all the bags and car seat at the door we decided to do what any responsible parents-to-be would do... And went to bed hoping we'd get some sleep. 💤🤭

Turns out he's not quite ready to make his big arrival just yet.
